Our Dog Is a Social Misfit But We Love Her Anyway

If you could make your pet understand one thing, what would it be?

Our Sunny
Our Sensitive girl, Sunny, brings an abundance of light and love into our home. But oh how very sad she can become when any of her pack members have to go somewhere. I am sure we would be going many more places, if it weren't for the fact that it breaks our sweet girl's heart so much when we do. How can we enjoy ourselves knowing how distressed Sunny becomes? We do not ever leave her alone, or have a dog sitter.

She is kind of mental, so there's difficulty travelling anywhere with her. Last time we visited my family she tried to fight with my brother's dog who is much smaller than she is. I feel like we'd visit a lot more if it weren't for the hassle of figuring out what to do with our girl. She is part of our family, after all.

I am a reclusive person, so it is not really a problem. She always has at least me around. I just don't like seeing her sad. Seeing her sad, makes me feel sad. I am already prone to sadness as it is. 🥹 But we cuddle together and I sing her silly songs I made up. I believe that she really does like it when I sing to her. It isn't just me acting like an idiot for no reason, lol! We are a comfort to each other.

Sunny, becomes especially distressed when I go anywhere. This is because I am always here for her. So what I wish Sunny could understand, is that when any of her family members have to leave, we will always come back home to her.Incidentally, I made up a song about that scenerio for her. It explains that when we go anywhere, we always come back. It is a derivative of a children's song I used to sing for my children.

I also wish she could understand that she needs to behave in less deviant ways when we take her places. 🐶 She has a beef with particular breeds of dogs, which is a problem. So if she could understand canine decorum and tact, that would be ever so marvelous.

As of right now, my son is joining Sunny in a howling session because her dad and sister had to go to an appointment. Not good to egg her on! Brandon is like another dog in Sunny's eyes. She will never listen to him because he is just another dog, not a pack leader.

Even considering the inconvenient flaws our girl has, I will never regret adopting her into our home. When I become enveloped in sadness, as I periodically do, Sunny keeps me moving. She keeps me from slipping too deeply into the abyss. She keeps me grounded. I must be present for her. She is like my child, especially now that my children are grown. Btw, we all cohabitate as a family, and there is nothing wrong with that, IMO. We all contribute to the household. We all get along well and have our own vibe as a family. We know how to be with each other. Meaning we are respectful to each other.

That is a whole other topic tho. I don't really believe in pushing adult children out of the house at 18. If they want to leave, that is a different story. We are a different kind of family, and all of us living together works out very well for us. We all have our own neurodivergent needs and we are supportive to those needs.

It seems I've once again deviated from the goddamn topic we are supposed to be discussing, lol. Typical. 😂

There is not really anything else that I wish we could make our girl understand. She is the light of our lives and we love her just the way she is, regardless.

As always, thank you so very much for reading my stuff.

It’s never deviating from the topic at hand…it is just going where the writing flows. I am a big fan of just going with the flow.
